The Triage® NGAL Test

A point-of-care fluorescence immunoassay to be used with the Triage® Meters for the rapid, quantitative determination of Neutrophil Gelantinase-Associated Lipocalin (NGAL) in EDTA anticoagulated whole blood or plasma specimens.

Under normal conditions, NGAL is detected at very low levels in several human tissues, including the kidneys. However, the expression of NGAL becomes markedly induced in the post-ischemic kidney and it has additionally been implicated in repair and nephrogenesis.1-4

There are many studies that have shown a link between elevated NGAL levels and the later occurance of elevated creatinine indicative of prior AKI. One recent study has shown NGAL to be elevated in association with AKI in patients presenting to the Emergency Department5. In this study, NGAL was able to distinguish AKI from prerenal azotemia and chronic kidney disease, suggesting that this biomarker may offer tremendous clinical utility in the ED setting.

The Triage® NGAL Test is CE Mark approved. It is not available in the United States.
